Speak Easy Sunday | This Day Is Yours Too!

Today is not for the perfect mother.

It’s not for the brunch tables lined with tulips and curated Instagram posts.

Today is for the ones who mother through the ashes.

Who didn’t learn love in gentle tones, but still give it.

Who were never tucked in safely, yet sing lullabies.

Who were broken, and still built homes.

If you’ve ever whispered, “I don’t want to be like her,”

or “I don’t know how to do this but I will die trying,” —

this day is yours.

Motherhood isn’t just birth or biology. It’s a choice. A burden. A vow.

For some of us, it’s re-parenting our inner child while raising our actual ones.

It’s sitting in the wreckage of generational trauma and deciding,

“This ends with me.”

I see you.

The mother whose own mother never called.

The one who buried babies or memories or both.

The one still in recovery, still healing, still showing up.

The one who sometimes doesn’t like being a mom but never stops trying.

You don’t need a card or a gift to prove you are worthy.

You already are.

Let this be the year we rewrite the meaning of this day.

From performance to presence.

From pain to purpose.

From silence to voice.

Because this is mothering, too.

And this day?

It’s yours.

All week, this day crept closer. Some of us felt it in the pit of our stomach.

Some in flashbacks. Some in rage. Some in longing. Some in numbness.

Take a breath. Go inward and tell us,

  • When did you first feel that Mother’s Day was coming?

  • What emotions came up—grief, guilt, pride, dread, joy, confusion?

  • What did you wish someone would say to you today?

  • What truth are you still carrying from your mother?

  • What truth are you creating for your children?

This space is yours. There’s no wrong way to feel.

If you’re brave enough, speak it aloud below. Or write it down and burn it. Or save it for the day you need reminding that you are not alone.

With fire, with feather, and always with truth —
